Himeji Kurozankaku 

It is a leather finishing technique combining two traditional Japanese masteries: Urushi lacquering applied on the advanced tanning craft that draws out the innate beauty of Japanese Wagyu hide.

"Kurozankaku", often referred to as the "Black Diamond of Leather," possesses a breathtaking beauty, appearing as if sprinkled with an infinite number of tiny diamond grains. Remarkably durable and resistant to abrasion, this exceptional material is said to have been used for the armor of high-ranking Samurai generals.

In this design, we have taken the "White Hide with Black Lacquer" variety of Himeji Kurozankaku, and named it Sumitama: the Black Ink Jewel.

This is white leather kneaded repeatedly by an artisan to create pearl like bumps.  The artisan then applied drops of Urushi lacquer throughout to give it its unique texture, as though drops of black ink were meticulously applied on its surface.

The notebook covers, beautifully crafted by [&B] , are finished with a bright red elastic band with BUNGUBOX's logo as a playful accent.
